Exhibition Judge Lecture: Jo McIntyre MPAGB
26th February 2018-7:45 pm - 10:00 pm
Jo will tell us how she got into wildlife photography, up to MPAGB, and onto being professional – with lots of her amazing images illustrating the talk, with some video footage included too. Here is whats she says:
I picked up my first DSLR in 2009 and in 2015 became the youngest person in the UK (aged 36) to receive their MPAGB, and with 48 points extra to spare (did it in pdi). I also started a wildlife photography business in 2012.
My talk will include wildlife tips and advice I’ve learnt along the way, and illustrated with lots of images I’ve taken in the last 4 years. I have a love of wildlife, and studied Zoology at Edinburgh University, but only became interested in photography when I was looking for a “cheap!” hobby. In the last 5 years I’ve been fortunate to build my own hides, working on fieldcraft knowledge I’ve developed from my time in the field and zoology knowledge, and grow as a wildlife photographer. I get great pleasure from helping others get a new picture they’ve not got before or suddenly see something “click” for them from a technical point of view. I’m a great believer of learning out in the field, and I describe things in quite a simple way and often using pictures, and I hardly ever use text books, magazines or manuals. I’m probably most well known for my images of diving ospreys, first entering one in an International competition with Wigan10 in 2012. I’m also now branching out into landscapes, which are new to me, and force me to practice my rusty photoshop skills!, so these will no doubt also creep into my talk.
