Members Evening 2: An Evening with Mark and Graham
July 24-7:45 am - 10:00 pm
This evening we have two very different presentations from members:
Mark Patterson – Recent Work
Mark will present some of his latest work covering a variety of subjects from captive wildlife, portraits, still life, aircraft and a couple of ‘how I did it’ images. Not all of the images are competition quality images, but add a bit of variety toward things he’s seen and photographed as a record shot.
Graham Rabbits – Affinity: the new kid on the block.
Graham will tell us about some post-production software called “Affinity”: Serif have been around since the late 1990s with their “….Plus” range, including PhotoPlus. It has always been a low cost alternative to Photoshop. Expert opinion was that it was technically equivalent to Photoshop, until you wanted to process Raw images. Quietly, in 2010, Serif assembled a small team with a brief to start from a blank sheet of paper and design a new photo processing system. It emerged for Mac in 2015 and was awarded “App of the Year”.
In 2016, the Windows version was launched. The Affinity family now includes
- Affinity Designer (Graphics design vector package)
- Affinity Photo (digital photo post processing)
A Publisher and a Data Asset Manager are planned after an imminent launch of Affinity Photo for ipad (Android to follow)
This is a British product – the team are based in Nottingham. To date, reviews have been little short of brilliant. And when Adobe switched to a subscription model, they left an open goal for Serif Affinity. This product has to be worth a serious look.
Please note events may be altered at short notice due to circumstances beyond our control. Any changes will be notified on the Website, Facebook and Notice Board as soon as possible.
