I joined SCC in 2006 as
I wanted to rekindle my passion for photography from when I was
a teenager mucking about with film. I got into photography at
about age 11 following my father who loved photographing ships
and so I did lots of the same.
As I got older I was intrigued by more creative
photos and wanted to be able to take my own. I quickly moved up
from my 110 camera to my dads old fixed lens Yashica 35mm, (he
bought a sexy Canon A1) which had a needle exposure meter which
was useless, so photos were exposed via the Kodak box guide of
“cloudy” “sunny” etc ! In time I moved
up to my first SLR a Cosina CT1G and this exploded my creative
brain along with Cokin filters and “slipping” the
camera gears to get multiple exposures, but my imagination was
rarely delivered in the end photos, which was never helped with
labs colour correcting my work.
Disappointment meant I pretty much left
photography in about 1988 but when digital started to emerge I
bought a compact in 1998 as it fascinated me, but I had no idea
about things like Photoshop. In 2005 I thought I’d try again
and then couldn’t stop as I could now do the things I always
wanted to.
I like to try all areas of photography and
I try to think of original ideas. I believe that great photos
are all around us, you just need to be sensitive to them. I don’t
travel to exotic locations and love the buzz when I see shot I
like. I keep learning all the time
thanks to constantly being inspired by others at SCC which constantly
fuels my enthusiasm and is much better way to enjoy photography
than simply photo magazines. |
